I was under a time constraint when using my Borders gift card, so I picked out Lily's Crossing mostly based on the Newbery honor seal, in addition to a book I'd been wanting ever since I'd heard about it on NPR, Guji Guji.
I never really got into it. I've been distracted with other business lately, so it never painted a complete picture of either the characters or the setting. I got it, of course, but I didn't really find it comelling in any way. It's a little liar girl who makes friends with a Hungarian WWII refugee boy pretty much because there aren't any other kids in this resort town for the summer. It's supposed to be a story about a special friendship and I never really got that. Yeah, they became friends, and yeah, there were some tight spots they got each other into, but for some reason that didn't do it for me.
