iTunes migration

I'm trying to migrate my iTunes library from my old computer to my new computer. On my new computer, I'll be keeping my music on an external hard drive. So I plugged the hard drive into the old computer, copied the files, and unplugged it. Then I plugged it into my new computer, opened iTunes, and tried to add the files to my new library, using several different methods. I ran into several problems.

1) It only added about 4000 of my 7000+ songs.

2) It did not conserve the ratings, play count, or comments for my songs.

3) When I had solved those problems, it couldn't find the files for half the songs.

I know I didn't start the right way, but aren't Macs supposed to be easier than this? Plug and play, come on! It's very frustrating.

I think I've found a way to do it. Using Sentui, I can copy music (including the ratings, play count, and comments) from my iPod onto my computer, and automatically add them to my iTunes library (which is set to be the external drive). It's just a little time-consuming.

  1. Nope, it didn't work. Neither did the instructions from iLounge. I ended up having to tell iTunes where about 500 of my song files were located. But now it's done and the horror is over. And I'm ready to DJ at Vinnie's tonight!
