Blog for Smithsonian Magazine

Job listing:, the Web site for Smithsonian magazine, is looking for
a writer for its science blog, The Gist.

The blog is a general look at the latest news and notes across most
fields of science, particularly astronomy, archaeology, environment,
wildlife, and some behavior and technology. Currently The Gist does not
cover health and medicine.

Applicants should be familiar with blog style; experienced bloggers
preferred. He/she may specialize in a particular field of science
coverage but should feel comfortable writing about all areas. We are
looking for someone with a strong but respectful voice--someone as
likely to disagree with a new study as praise it, someone able to
expand on the importance of new research and, above all, someone who
can communicate his/her thoughts and opinions to a general audience.
Familiarity with other established science blogs is a plus.

The blogger will write no more than one post per day during the week,
at $15 per post. Location not important. For the right person, this can
become a one-year position with the potential for extension. Current
bloggers should send a resume and links to his/her blog. Others should
send a resume, 2-3 clips, and 2-3 sample posts on current topics.

  1. Oh, you should totally apply! What a very awesome gig. You're so qualified. :-)

  2. Yeah, it would be awesome if I had the time to write a post every day, but I don't even have time to do one a week. Sad.

  3. Oh yeah, and I'm not allowed to have a job while I'm a student.
