I'm thinking of going to Swingin' New England this year, even though I haven't gone to a weekend dance event in a long time. Mostly, I feel obliged to go because they donated passes to our Jack and Jill. But also, it's a great event. It's just far away (North Falmouth, MA) and expensive to go for the whole weekend. I haven't been doing too much lindy hop, and no west coast at all, so I don't know that I'd dance enough to make it worth going, either. So my solution was to go just for Saturday night, watch the shows (there are some really good competitions in the evenings), dance as late as I could (the dancing is usually from about midnight to 6 or 7 am), and then crash in a hotel room.
But the hotel says it's a 2 night minimum, so that means either shell out a lot more cash than I would like, or drive home in the middle of the night on no sleep. Or maybe crash in someone else's room. But so far the only people I know of who are going for sure already have four people and possibly two babies. (I know the babies exist; I don't know whether they're going to the event.) Babies are great and all, but not when you're trying to sleep.
So I don't know now. Maybe Bruce will be up for driving home? Maybe we can get a Saturday night room somewhere else nearby? It's the Cape in November, so not exactly tourist central.
