Creeping leaves

Sometimes in the evenings of late fall or early winter, fallen leaves fool me, taking the shape of a small animal. The wind blows them across the street in front of my car with the same speed and fervor of a rodent trying to escape human eyes. For a second as I approach, I panic, thinking, am I about to kill a rat? Luckily, it's always a leaf.
