Why does your car smell like crayons?

I never noticed it, but every time someone new gets in my car, they ask why it smells like crayons.

In what was probably the most productive party conversation I've had in a long time, I learned the answer: At the time my car was made, VW used a wax sealant on the underside of the car to protect it from rust. The wax smells like crayons.

So you're not crazy.
