The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I can see why it won the Newbery Award: It's historical fiction written well with a touch of social commentary. The genius is using an outsider as the protagonist. Through her eyes, we get to meet the "witch" and see how absurdly strict the Puritan culture was.
I also liked reading about a place I'd been, Wethersfield, CT.
