Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
There's certainly nothing wrong with this story. It's as if the author read Cinderella and thought, "what kind of idiot would put up with all those orders from her stepfamily?!" The author then added a little twist and a lot of exposition to the classic fairy tale. It's a good story. It makes sense and it's well written. It's less of a fairy tale because of the understandable motivations. But there's also quite a bit of elves, ogres, and giants. I could have done without that bit. But good story.
