Depressing but it feels authentic. Tessa has terminal cancer and only a few months to live. She has a list of things to do before she dies. It's not a bucket list, it's not like she's having some kicks before life runs out. She's pretty depressed for most of the book and a lot of it becomes about her trying to finish things up and revisit her memories.
