Scat

Scat Scat

I'm pleased that Hiaasen is continuing this foray into YA. If you read Hoot, you know what to expect from Scat. It's an environmentally-conscious mystery set in the Everglades, where kids are the detectives and essential to saving the day. Hiaasen does his usual thing with eccentric characters introduced separately, whose stories weave together into the intricate plot. I think Hiaasen's quintessential adjective would be "crafty".

So that being said, it's a good story. I was a little worried when the mystery began to be solved about 100 pages from the end, but it turned out ok. Because once the mystery was solved, the action began. So, yeah, I wouldn't say it was a favorite, but it was worth reading, and entertaining the whole way through.
